Cambodia Gambling Dens
Wednesday, 16. March 2016
There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino gaming is illegal. Eight casinos are situated in a generally tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest gambling centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the casinos ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million, and there are a few controls constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are allegedly required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of most borders.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked boat casino, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of twenty-one, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 slots and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machines and sixty six of the common table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel building that features numerous comforts in addition to the casino, which offers ten thousand sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight table games.
