There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from next door Thailand, where casino betting is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are situated in a generally tiny space in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime spot, a three to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai laborers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal income gained from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are apparently necessary to cross, there are methods around this, as is real of most border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only one gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and sixty tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown before long opened. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slots and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, again in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel complex that highlights a number of luxuries in addition to the gambling den, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 table games.
