There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia casinos that lie just across the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which casino gaming is illegal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally small area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent spot, a 3 to four hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing income gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of restrictions requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; still, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are ceremoniously open from 0900 to 17:00, and even though visas are allegedly necessary to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.
The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only 1 casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machine games and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel compound that contains a number of luxuries in addition to the casino, which houses 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty one armed bandits and 88 tables.
