There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, where casino wagering is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a relatively small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime destination, a three to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gambling locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mostly Thai; however, funding sources are vague. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 1700, and although visas are apparently necessary to pass, there are methods around this, as is correct of most border crossings.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship casino, highlights one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of vingt-et-un, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The first gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort contains three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around vacation and hotel complex that contains numerous amenities aside from the gambling hall, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
